Graduation assignment: AI-driven salvager assignment decision support system

AI-driven decision support, incident response optimization, resource allocation, system design and validation, operational automation

One of our customers is a leading vehicle recovery company responsible for maintaining traffic flow by quickly responding to and clearing stalled or broken-down vehicles and accident sites. At present, the selection of which salvager responds to an incident is determined by planners drawing on their own experience and intuition. While effective, this manual process can result in delays, human errors, and subjective decisions, sometimes leading to less efficient outcomes or inconsistent service delivery.

To address these challenges, the company is seeking to automate this critical assignment process with an intelligent decision support system. By rapidly analyzing a comprehensive set of factors—including the incident’s nature and severity, vehicle and equipment suitability, each recovery vehicle’s status and location, estimated arrival times, and the skills and certifications of available personnel, as well as real-time traffic and weather conditions—an AI model can minimize both delays and errors. Such a solution aims to support planners with consistent, data-driven recommendations, ultimately improving response speed, operational efficiency, and service reliability.

For this graduation assignment, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and validation of an advanced AI-based decision support system. This assignment will involve collecting and preparing relevant data, selecting and implementing appropriate AI techniques (such as classification, optimization, or recommendation algorithms), and creating a system that recommends the optimal salvager and recovery vehicle for any given incident.

Beyond the technical build, you will validate your model’s performance and demonstrate how it streamlines the assignment process and contributes to faster, more objective, and more effective incident response for the company. Your work will directly support a real-world operation and lay the foundation for a smarter, more responsive vehicle recovery service.

Both the design and validation phases require close contact with the customer to ensure the solution meets real operational needs and incorporates essential feedback. We can facilitate and support this customer interaction throughout your assignment, enabling you to gather insights, validate your approach, and ultimately deliver.
